Personal Ministries

Personal Ministries is a facet of the church whose origin can be traced to the beginning of Seventh-day Adventist® history in the 1860s. It endeavors to inspire, motivate, equip, train, and mobilize all members for dynamic Christian service with the conviction that “The church of Christ is organized for service” (Ministry of Healing, p. 148) and “Every son and daughter of God is called to be a missionary; we are called to the service of God and our fellow men” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 395).

Personal Ministry – Overview

Purpose/Mission

The mission of the Personal ministries is to provide resources and train church member to unite their efforts with ministry and church officers in the final proclamation of the gospel of salvation. This is very important; the Personal Ministries director is to have a mission of getting every member of the church involved.

Goals/Objectives

One should ask why train? The purpose of getting everyone trained and involved is to WIN SOULS for Christ’s kingdom. Thus, everyone is able to do some form of witnessing – making disciples of Christ.

Strategy/Methods

There are different methods, as there are different Gifts of the Spirit, which can be used for soul winning. Though each member must be active; it is also understood that every member, after identifying his or her Gift, use their best strategy/ies to win souls, accordingly. This does not limit a member from perfecting a gift or developing a new talent. Some of the most notable methods include: Door-to-door evangelism, distribution of literature, giving personal Bible studies, lay preaching, small group ministries, ingathering programs, Church community service programs, etc.

Associated Departments and how they function

Makeup of the department:

The pastor, an elder, the personal ministries secretary, treasurer, community service leader, interest coordinator, communication secretary, Sabbath school superintendents, youth director, etc. All department heads, must have a keen interest in doing the main purpose of the church – making disciples.

Interaction with other departments:

The department unites with the effort of the Sabbath School department and is liked closely with the community service department. It works ever closely with the Sabbath School Action Units leaders: to teach, train and collaborate. Each unite must desire to use various strategies to meet the goals that his or her unit is assigned.
